New business caters 'furry friends'

Happy Hound Spa, a small-animal grooming business, recently opened at 47 N. Conococheague St. in Williamsport.

Owner Trish Faith said she can provide "complete grooming for all our furry friends." In addition to all dogs and cats, she grooms other small animals such as ferrets, rabbits and gerbils.

The business is open Saturday through Wednesday, 3 to 8 p.m., and closed on Thursday and Friday.

Fall festival planned Saturday

A fall festival will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Downsville Christian Church, 8641 Downsville Pike.

The event features barbequed chicken, homemade soups, ham sandwiches, hot dogs and steamers and baked items.

Exercise classes offered

The Washington County Recreation Department is offering fall fitness classes at 4-Star Fitness Center, 30 Milestone Drive. The total fitness workout allows participants to define a personal workout to suit their fitness needs, improving flexibility and learning toning techniques.

Morning classes are Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 13 to Dec. 8, 10 to 11 a.m. Evening classes are Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 12 to Dec. 7, 6 to 7 p.m.

The classes cost $45 for county resident, $55 for nonresidents and $36 for those ages 55 and older.

Zumba sessions will also be held at 4-Star. It brings a Latin flavor to exercising.

Drop-in classes are on Tuesday and Thursday each week, from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The drop-in fee costs $2 per class.

Clothes of Hope schedule for September

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing. It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on  Thursday and Monday; and Thursday, Sept. 22. It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, and Monday, Sept. 19.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are appreciated.

It will begin accepting fall and winter gently used, clean clothing on the days it is open.

WHS Class of 1956 meets monthly

The Williamsport High School Class of 1956 meets for dinner at 4 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse on York Road in Halfway.

All WHS graduates are invited.

Their next get-together will be Tuesday, Sept. 13.

WHS Class of 1957 to hold reunion

The Williamsport High School Class of 1957 will hold its annual picnic reunion on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pavilion 1 in Byron Memorial Park.

Other classes of the 1950s are invited to attend. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish.
