The months of June and July truly went to the animals as staff, faculty and students at Kaplan University, along with externs in the medical- assisting program collected items and donated them to the Humane Society of Washington County.

For the second year in a row, staff, faculty and students at Kaplan held a Jeans Day fundraiser and donated the proceeds to the shelter. On Aug. 10, Kaplan's Dean of Student Affairs Lisa Copenhaver and Student Success Coordinator Bonnie Mazzocchi presented the donation of $170 to Paul Miller, the shelter's executive director.

"Once a month, faculty and staff donned blue jeans at work for a donation," Mazzocchi said. "They really got behind this."

Copenhaver said this type of fundraiser serves a dual purpose.

"It is a fun and an educational project because it increases awareness of the organization we are helping, and promotes the idea of giving back to the community," she said.

Miller was pleased with the donation.

"The staff, faculty and students at Kaplan University are very generous," Miller said."We really appreciate their continued support."

Kaplan is at 18618 Crestwood Drive in Hagerstown. It offers various areas of study, including allied health, business, criminal justice, design, information technology and paralegal studies.
