Trauma seminar planned at HCC

Hagerstown Community College's Continuing Education and Community Services Division is offering a trauma seminar on Friday, Oct. 7, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the Elliott Center at HCC.

Continental breakfast begins at 7:45 a.m. A series of sessions and workshops will follow, including "Facial Trauma and Reconstruction" at 8 a.m.; "Emergency Radiology" at 9:15 a.m.; "Pediatric Trauma" at 10:45 a.m.; "Pediatric Drowning" at 1 p.m.; and "Dealing with Unidentifiable Severe Trauma Patients" at 2:15 p.m.

Guest speakers will be Michael Christy, assistant professor in the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery and director of microsurgery at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center; Fred Moeslein, an assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine; Allen Walker, an associate professor of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Walter Kerr, a certified medical transport executive and flight paramedic; and Bruce Klein,  an associate chief in the division of pediatric emergency medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The fee is $85 per person and includes breakfast, continuing-education credits, handout materials and a certificate of participation.

 Six professional continuing education credits are available for nurses, nurse practitioners and emergency medical personnel who attend the entire program.
