William Leroy "Bill" Hawbaker

William Leroy "Bill" Hawbaker, died peacefully Aug. 7, 2011, after a long battle with brain cancer, with his family by his side.

Born in Hagerstown, Md., on June 4, 1953, he was raised by Thomas and Dorothy Gardner of Williamsport, Md.

Bill attended Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

He worked for Craig Paving for 17 years, retiring from Washington County Roads Department in 2007.

He loved going to the racetrack with his grandchildren, Dylan and Erynn, and camping in Chincoteague, Va.

Bill was a member of The Improved Order of Red Men of Williamsport.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dorothy "Dottie"; children, daughter, Billie Jo Pryor (Eric); son, Michael "Mike" Hawbaker; grandchildren, Dylan Pryor and Erynn Pryor; and brothers, David Gardner of Hagerstown and Scott Gardner of Williamsport.

Bill requested his body be donated to science for brain cancer study.

A memorial service for William Leroy “Bill” Hawbaker will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport.
