Retired Sgt. John Patrick Callahan, 60, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at his home in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Tuesday, June 5, 1951, in Los Angeles, Calif., he was the son of the late John Minot Callahan and Constance Baker-Callahan.

Sgt. John Callahan was a retired U.S. Army veteran from the 7th Signal Command. He received many Army achievements, commendations and other honorable medals in his military career. He was an expert rifle marksman and loved his family, friends and his service to his country.

He is survived by his wife, Chong Callahan; daughter, Susan Callahan of Hagerstown; son, Patrick Callahan and wife, Kyrah, of Waynesboro, Pa.; and grandchildren, Shanelle, Kylilia, Nyla and Soo-Jin. He is also survived by Mary Andersen and Carol Powers.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Walter Callahan.

Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
