Howard Earl Johnson, 71, of Hagerstown, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at his home.
Born Feb. 11, 1940, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Howard Lee and Carrie Amelia Cole Johnson.
He served in the U.S. Marines.
He was retired from Mack Trucks Inc., and formerly employed by Routzahn Furniture and Maryland Correctional Training Center.
He was a member of South Mountain Rod & Gun Club, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 and Red Men of Williamsport No. 84.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kunkleman Johnson; five daughters, Christina Garvin of South Carolina, Valerie Hastings, Robin Powell and Rene Betsill, all of Maryland, and Crystal Zinn of Massachusetts; two sons, Howard Johnson II and Mike Johnson, both of Maryland; two sisters, Shirley Meyers and Rose Bowser, both of Maryland; two brothers, Isaac Johnson and Gary Johnson, both of Maryland; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jerry Lowans will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
