MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A former custodian at Hedgesville High School is accused of sexual assaulting an 18-year-old woman this summer while the school was being cleaned, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Kenneth Weigle, 64, 555 Mauve Road, Hedgesville, retired from Berkeley County Public Schools on Aug. 16 as a result of the allegations, school officials said Friday.

Weigle was arraigned Friday by Magistrate Joan V. Bragg on one count of second-degree sexual assault, one count of sexual abuse by a person of trust and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to court records.

Hedgesville High School Principal Ron Lyons told West Virginia State Police in July that he was notified of the sexual assault allegation in a memorandum from Workforce West Virginia.

Workers in the employment program were assigned to help with  cleaning and maintenance at the campus during summer recess, according to court documents and school officials.

The alleged sexual assault occurred in a men's restroom at the school after vodka was consumed in the boiler room by the defendant, another young woman and a male worker, the court documents said.
