Martinsburg man charged in connection with gunshot fired

Renaldo F. Evans was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man has been charged in connection with a gunshot fired Monday in the area of College and West King streets, the Martinsburg Police Department said.

Renaldo F. Evans, of 125 W. Burke St., Apt. 15, in Martinsburg, was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment, according to a police department news release.

Another man who police allege was involved in the incident, Decontee Smith, of 920 Reuben's Court in Martinsburg, was charged with disturbing the peace.

Police allege that Smith was in an argument with a friend of Evans' at about 6:15 p.m. Monday, when Evans allegedly pulled a semi-automatic pistol and fired one shot.

Evans and his friend fled to Evans' apartment, where police found them with a handgun, according to the release. Police found Smith at a business on West King Street.

Evans was being held in Eastern Regional Jail, police said.

Smith was bonded and released.
