Donald V. Carpenter

Donald Victor Carpenter of Tampa, Fla., and formerly of Hagerstown, Md., went home to be with the Lord at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011, due to complications from a stroke.

Born July 10, 1935, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ira Carpenter and Lydia Hose Carpenter.  

He attended Hagerstown High School.

Don was a member of Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship in Cearfoss.

He worked for Charlton Brothers Transportation for 42 years as a truck driver, until his retirement in 1996. Don loved driving and meeting people.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy J. Anderson Carpenter, on May 1, 2008; three sisters; one brother; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
Don is survived by daughters, Donna Gossard of Hagerstown, Judy Hoffman of Clear Spring and Penny Clark of Tampa; granddaughters, Amy Rowland of Sharpsburg, Jill Swope of Martinsburg, W.Va., Beth Miller and Becky Hoffman of Clear Spring, and Rachel Clark and Sarah Clark of Tampa; sister, Hazel Brewer of Hagerstown; father-in-law, Glen Whitman of Williamsport; sisters-in-law, Shirley Sharp of Port Orange, Fla., Ava Mussolino of Hagerstown and Anita Saloom of Falling Waters, W.Va.; brother-in-law, Charles Anderson of Hagerstown; longtime friends, Gene and Evelyn O’Dell of Hagerstown; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
