Art association to mark 20th anniversary

Valley Art Association at the Mansion House Art Center in Hagerstown City Park will celebrate its 20th anniversary Friday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Mansion House is behind City Park, off Highland Way. The event will include music and light refreshments.   

Kiwanis travelogue series resumes at South High


The Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown begins its 37th season of the Travelogue Adventure Series this fall, with presentations at the South Hagerstown High School auditorium. Programs begin at 7:30 p.m.  

The series includes six programs:


  • Oct. 19 — “Hawaii — the Pacific Paradise”
  • Nov. 16 — “Mongolia — Land of Genghis Kahn”
  • Feb. 15 — “LaManche/The English Channel”
  • Feb. 29 — “The Silk Road — China to Turkey”
  • March 14 — “The Great Canadian Train Ride”
  • April 18 — “Discovering the Dutch”


World travelers/cinematographers share their experiences in each location, highlighting customs and cultures from many lands.   

The series is a community-service project of the Kiwanis Club. On average, 200 to 250 individuals attend the performances.

The season ticket price for six performances costs $30 for adults or $10 for individual programs. Student season tickets cost $10, or $5 for a single performance. Proceeds from the series help the Kiwanis Club support the activities of charitable organizations in Washington County.
