James Bowers Straley Sr., 76, of Falling Waters, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at City Hospital.

Born July 31, 1935, in Williamsport, Md., he was the son of the late Roy B. Straley and Beatrice A. Bowers Straley.

Mr. Straley was involved with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts; Martinsburg and Hedgesville Little League and Farm League Baseball; a member of the Enjoy Growing Older Club; member of the Williamsport Town Museum; and active in The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 in Williamsport. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge.

He was retired from Jamison Door Co. in Hagerstown, Md.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rose F. Ceravalo Straley; daughter, Monica L. Straley; son, James B. “J.B.” Straley Jr. and wife, Tracey; his beloved grandson, Aaron B. Straley; his sister, Medessia “Dess” Nalley of Downsville, Md.; brother-in-law, Ned Householder of Downsville; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded by a daughter, Veronica Straley, who died in infancy; and brothers and sisters, Claude Straley, Roy Leon Straley, Phillip “Jake” Straley, Jeanette “Sis” Peacher, Joseph “Gene” Straley and Lauraetta Householder.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Sept. 1, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Fryer celebrant. Interment prayers will be said at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
