Maxine McCardell, 83, of 21 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

Born Oct. 29, 1927, in Pinesburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Braxton and Luewillie Taylor Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Rollin McCardell, in 1970.

She was employed by Western Maryland State Hospital until her retirement. She was previously employed by the Federal Silk Mill in Williamsport.

She was a member of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport.

She was a member of IORM Red Feather Council 59 Degree of Pocahontas, Williamsport. She was past president of Potomac Post 202 American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include daughter, Debbie L. Cline of Williamsport; grandson, Richard Lee Cline III and his wife, Denise, of Halfway, Md., great- granddaughter, Samantha Cline of Halfway; great-granddaughter, Megan Cline of Halfway; brother-in-law, Spuds Furtado of Pinesburg; her beloved dog, Sweet Pea; and good friend, Patty Everitt of Williamsport.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Floyd Thomas, Reuben Thomas, Thomas Thomas and Ray Thomas; and five sisters, Thelma Gift, Gladys Herbert, Madeline Bowers, Pauline Furtado and Frances Thomas.

The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. on Monday for the convenience of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. John Jicha officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
