Cape Air to temporarily halt flights

HAGERSTOWN — Starting tonight, Cape Air will temporarily stop flying between Hagerstown and Baltimore because of the approaching hurricane. The airline will resume local operations after the storm has passed, according to a news release from Washington County.

After the last arrival to Hagerstown at 8:58 p.m. Friday, the carrier will move its aircraft to Pittsburgh to wait out the storm, the release said. Other aircraft have relocated to Hagerstown Regional Airport as a result of the storm.

A customer service representative from Cape Air will be at the ticket counter from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday, according to the release. The airport passenger terminal will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Avis/Budget Car Rental will operate in the terminal on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the release said.


St. Mark's Lutheran Church carnival

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown, has canceled its Rally Day carnival scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Washington County Museum of Fine Arts

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts at City Park in Hagerstown will be closed through Monday, Aug. 29. The roof over the Old Master Gallery is being replaced and there is concerned that rain will leak into the gallery.

Everybody's Day at Pen Mar Park

The annual Everybody's Day celebration at Pen Mar Park, scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 28, has been canceled. The waltz and jitterbug competitions have been rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2.

Shepfest at Shepherd University

Shepfest, scheduled for 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Shepherd University, has been moved indoors to the Butcher Center on the Shepherd campus. Gates open at 2 p.m. and live music begins at 2:30 p.m. The featured act, Gym Class Heroes, is scheduled to take the stage at 4 p.m.
