Charles Olandus Byrd, 89, was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Walker, W.Va., and passed away on Aug. 9, 2011, in Walkersville, Md. He was the son of the late Emil Minor Byrd and Mildred Metcalf Byrd.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Lindstrom Byrd.
Charles was a 1941 graduate of Parkersburg High School in West Virginia. He worked at the Review and Herald Publishing Association for 36 years, retiring in 1984. His biggest hobby was work on his Myersville farm.
He was a member of the Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Donald Byrd; daughter-in-law, Michele; and grandson, Charlie, all of Myersville, Md.; brother, Richard (Isabelle) of Collegedale, Tenn.; sisters, Annadell Robinson (Everett) of Silver Spring, Md., and Rosemary Hickman (Ray) of Hagerstown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed and Ronnie, and sister, Esther Lindstrom Clegg.
A memorial service will be held at the Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. Pastors Quintana and Ray Woolsey will officiate.
