A bridge at the intersection of Mount Tabor Road and Rush Run Road west of Hagerstown was ordered closed Monday, the Washington County Division of Public Works announced in a news release.

A routine inspection of the bridge revealed that the steel beams that support the roadway deck were corroded and will need to be replaced, the release said.

The bridge is expected to be closed "for a significant amount of time as a replacement will be necessary," according to the release.

An emergency construction contract will be issued in the near future to address the situation, the release said.

Traffic is being detoured around the bridge via Spade Road.
