Woman injured, infant unharmed in accident

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A 22-year-old woman was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., Monday afternoon after the vehicle she was driving crashed into a large tree along Grade Road in Falling Waters, W.Va., police said.

The woman's name was not released by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Tuesday, and her medical condition was not available.

An infant riding in the vehicle was found unharmed in a rear seat and was released to relatives after being taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg, according to a news release from the sheriff's department.

The accident was reported about 3:36 p.m. in the 3000 block of Grade Road.

The woman was driving a dark green Ford Explorer west on Grade Road when the vehicle crossed the center of the road and went into the opposing traffic lane and then traveled off the road, police said.

The vehicle struck the tree on the front, driver's side, police said. The woman was trapped in the vehicle and unresponsive when EMS and fire officials arrived, police said.
