Spaghetti dinner planned on 9/11

On Sunday, Sept. 11, Saint Paul's Lutheran Church and Dixon-Troxell American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown are combining efforts for a spaghetti dinner and special program commemorating that eventful date.

The dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. with the program at 7. The doors open at 5. You can get your tickets at St. Paul's Church Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

You can also get tickets at the American Legion. Tickets cost $6 per person.

Red Cross offers class

The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross will conduct a CPR/AED program for professional rescuers and healthcare providers Wednesday, Aug. 31, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The intention of this two-year certification is to maintain professional levels of CPR/AED for nurses, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, doctors and caregivers.

Duck race is Saturday

This Saturday is the annual duck race, sponsored by the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. There is still time to purchase rubber ducks for the race.  

In addition, the fire company will hold a barbecue, featuring barbecue chicken, pit beef sandwiches, Italian sausage sandwiches and ham sandwiches.

School starts Wednesday

School starts Wednesday for most students in Washington County. Please be extra cautious as there will be youngsters walking to and from school as well as bus stops full of students waiting.
