SMITHSBURG — Three people, including two small children, were injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon in the 23500 block of Foxville Road, according to Deputy D. Haugh of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The accident occurred when a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck heading south on Foxville Road (Md. 77) went into the northbound lane and collided with the front of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, Haugh said.

A woman and two small children were cut from the Silverado and taken to Meritus Medical Center with minor injuries, according to Haugh. The driver of the Ram refused treatment, Haugh said.

Trooper Talbert of the Maryland State Police handled the incident with assistance from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, but he left the scene after the three people who were injured were taken to the hospital at about 12:45 p.m., Haugh said.

The names of those involved were not available Monday afternoon, and a state police spokesman said that information might not be available until Tuesday.

Police responded to the accident at 12:05 p.m., a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. After arriving on the scene, they shut down Foxville Road between Wolfsville Road and Pleasant Valley Road.

In addition to Maryland State Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office, a firetruck from Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co. and an ambulance from Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services were on the scene.

Both trucks had to be towed.
