August 18, 2011

A Hancock man is being held on $400,000 bond after being charged Tuesday by the Washington County Sheriff's Office with two counts of sex abuse of a minor, according to court records.

James Alan Bishop, 46, of 14719 Rice Road, was also charged with two counts each of third-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault, the Washington County District Court records said.

The incidents for which Bishop was charged allegedly occurred on Aug. 11 and 12 at the home of the victim, a 10-year-old girl, according to the application for statement of charges.

The girl told investigators that the abuse occurred as she and Bishop were watching movies, the charging documents said. The girl alleged that Bishop touched her genitals on both nights.

The girl was interviewed by investigators on Monday, and Bishop was charged on Tuesday, the documents said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 13, according to court records.
