Joseph P. Barnes, 68, of Crystal Falls Drive in Hagerstown, Md., entered eternal peace on Aug. 13, 2011.

Born Jan. 19, 1943, in Hagerstown, he was the son of late John P. and Jane C. (Miller) Barnes.

He was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School in 1960, where he played baseball.

He was a Minor League baseball coach at National Little League.

Joe retired from the automotive business after a long and successful career as an automotive salesman and manager from Hoffman Automotive and Younger Motorcars. After retirement, Joe spent his time as a promoter of the monthly Maugansville Sports Card Show. He immensely enjoyed taking trips to the Outer Banks with friends, fishing and spending time with his beloved dog, Lulu.

He is survived by his son, Jamie Barnes of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren, Michael Barnes of North East, Md., and Christine and Renee Barnes of Williamsport, Md.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Jack Barnes.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at 7 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg, MD 21783.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
