Floyd L. Ferrell, 76, of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Oct. 30, 1934, in Jefferson County, W.Va.,  he was the son of the late Colonel Homer Ferrell and Ida Susan (Berry) Ferrell.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley (Faulders) Ferrell, at home; daughter Diana L. Carpenter and husband, John, of Charles Town, W.Va.; grandchildren, Angel Jordan and husband, Eric, of Shenandoah Junction and Amanda Carpenter of Charles Town; great-grandchild, Noah Jordan; two sisters, Betty Padgett of Shenandoah Junction and Janice Myers and husband, Richard, of Shenandoah Junction; and special nephews, David Ferrell, Steve, Jeff, Doug, Rick Myers and Jim Padgett.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Ralph Ferrell.

Mr. Ferrell retired after 30 years at Letterkenny Army Depot as a professional photographer. He also worked for the Jefferson County Board of Education as a custodian.

He was a member, deacon and lay minister of Grace Baptist Church, Shenandoah Junction.

He was a member of Elk Branch Lodge 93, AF & AM, Shenandoah Junction; VFW Memorial Post 3522, Charles Town; Shenandoah Junction Ruritan Club; and Jefferson County Service Personnel Organization.

Mr. Ferrell served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Grace Baptist Church, Shenandoah Junction. Pastor Jason Powell will officiate. Interment will be private.

Friends will be received today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
