Augustoberfest celebration planned Aug. 27-28 in Hagerstown

August 15, 2011

HAGERSTOWN — The 16th annual celebration of Hagerstown’s German heritage will be Saturday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The traditional Bavarian celebration of Augustoberfest will be held, rain or shine, under a large festival tent in the Central Parking Lot.

The event will feature German entertainment, food and beverage, craft vendors and children’s activities.

Special tickets are available for the “Frühschoppen” — a German brunch held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. American cuisine will also be available for purchase at the festival.

Festival-goers can take part in a Volksmarch, a noncompetitive walk, at 8 a.m. Saturday through the city and City Park. Walkers can choose a 10K or 6K trail.

General admission costs $5 per day and tickets can be purchased at the gate.

Those 12 and younger will be admitted free and must be accompanied by a paid participant.
