Yogi Martin, a retired educator, will present “Successful Corneal Surgery” Saturday at 2 p.m. at Discovery Station.

There is no admission fee for the Saturday Plus program. Admission to the museum costs $5 to $7 for the whole day. All active military and their families receive free admission from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The museum is at 101 W. Washington St. in downtown Hagerstown.

SHHS Class of 1971 to hold 40th reunion

The South Hagerstown High School’s Class of 1971 will celebrate its 40th class reunion Saturday, Oct.1, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Beaver Creek Country Club on Mapleville Road. Peaceable Paws

Peaceable Paws, a dog- training facility in Fairplay, will hold a treibball workshop Sunday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

It teaches dogs to drive balls into a goal. Spectator and participant slots are still available

SHHS Class of 1959  

The South High Class of 1959 will hold a 70th birthday picnic Saturday, starting at noon at Funkstown Park. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be provided by the reunion committee. Classmates are asked to bring a covered dish to share.

Basket bingo

The Habitat for Humanity Women Build program will hold a Longaberger basket bingo Sunday, Oct. 23, at The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 on Lappans Road in Williamsport.  

Tickets cost $25 each for 25 games and lunch.  

Doors open at 11 a.m., lunch will be served at noon and the games begin at 1 p.m. There will also be raffles and tips jars. All baskets are current and filled, and will include the 2011 Holiday Baskets. Seats are limited. You must be 18 years old to play.

‘Cool Your Paws’ set for Saturday

The Meadows of Hagerstown will host its fifth annual ’50s-Style Freeze titled “Cool Your Paws” to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, Aug. 27.

The annual event takes place at The Meadows Original Frozen Custard of Hagerstown in the South Pointe Shopping Center, and will feature pet photography by McMillion Photography, caricature pet paintings by Off the Leash, specially designed dog beds by Pet-O-Bed, Dog-Gone Groomin’s mobile van, Certified Professional Dog Trainer Karol Kennedy, music by DogFoot Acoustics and a chance to win a gift from Monster Hollow Studios, $5 Meadows gift certificates and Meadows T-shirts.

There will be free frozen custard treats for all four-legged visitors with any purchases. A percentage of all sales from 2 to 6 p.m. will be donated to the shelter.

The Humane Society will also be accepting donations during the benefit. Suggested donations include money, dog collars, leashes, scratching posts, portable kennels/crates, as well as PetCo and/or PetSmart gift certificates.
