Leroy Schoppert Rind Jr., 84, of Sebring, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring.

Born Oct. 4, 1926, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Leroy Schoppert Rind and Lorice Offenbacker Rind.

He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Hagerstown, and a member of Tanglewood Community Church of Sebring. He was also a member of Masonic Friendship Lodge 84 AF&AM of Hagerstown, the 32nd degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Cumberland, Md., and a lifetime member of the Pioneers.

He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was employed by C&P Telephone Co. for 39 years, where he worked as a lineman and served the Washington County area. He was known as Rosie or Buddy.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Patricia Rind of Sebring; daughter, Cynthia Brantner and husband, Joel, of Hagerstown; son, Leroy Rind III; stepdaughter, Sherri Basta, of Lakeville, Mass.; stepson, Donald Basta and wife, Kathy, of Bangor, Pa.; sister, Wetonia Carbaugh, of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; three step-grandsons; five great-grandchildren; a special niece, Donna Barbour, and husband, Jimmy, of Martinsburg; and two special adopted grandchildren, Kourtney and Kerrington Grey, of Clear Spring, Md.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Smith.

Services will be held Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Randall Reid will officiate. Burial will be in Little Rose Hill Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m., with Masonic services beginning at 5 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice House, 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870.
