HAGERSTOWN — The left lane of Dual Highway (U.S. 40) eastbound was closed between Mount Aetna Road and Edgewood Drive on Thursday as part of the long-term plan to widen the intersection of Dual Highway and Edgewood Drive, said David Buck, a State Highway Administration spokesperson.

The lane will be closed until 3 p.m. Thursday and could be closed Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Earlier Thursday, motorists could not turn left from Dual Highway eastbound onto Edgewood Drive, but that part of the intersection reopened around noon.

Dual Highway eastbound between Mount Aetna Road and Edgewood Drive is the last part of the project that may be subject to periodic lane closures, according to Buck. Permanent striping has to be put down in that area, signs and signals have to be shifted, and the shoulder lanes and sidewalks need to be completed, he said.

The work on Edgewood Drive at the intersection is scheduled to be completed at the end of this week.

Weather permitting, the overall project could be completed in a little more than two weeks, Buck said.
