Conococheague faces crossroads in game restart

August 10, 2011|From staff reports

The task for the Conococheague Little League All-Stars sounds simple.

The Maryland champions need a win this morning over Pennsylvania to advance to the semifinals of the Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament in Bristol, Conn.

Completing that task may prove more difficult.

Pennsylvania (3-0) has allowed just seven runs in its three pool-play victories, by far the fewest allowed by any team.

The teams were locked in a scoreless tie Tuesday when rain  delayed, then suspended, the game after two complete innings.

The game will resume today at 9 a.m. with Pennsylvania coming to bat in the top of the third.

If Conococheague (1-2) wins, it is assured a semifinal berth as one of the top four teams in pool play.

With a loss, Conococheague would fall into a tie with New York, which would take the semifinal berth by virtue of its head-to-head win over Conococheague.
