First lady’s former employment merits closer look

To the editor:

This morning’s Herald-Mail (July 29 ) carried a national news story entitled “Bachmann declines to discuss husband’s business.”

Seems husband Marcus runs a Christian counseling clinic that attempts to convert gay patients.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann stated, “I’m running for the presidency of the United States. My husband is not running for the presidency. Neither are my children. Neither is our business.”

Sarah Palin has had her trash picked through and her kindergarten files examined, not to mention all the derogatory name-calling of her and even her daughter. She’s married to a minority, but this is overlooked by the mainstream press.

The New York Post (Jan. 24, 2009) had a column titled “Replacing Michelle.” Referencing the National Review, the column stated Michelle Obama was irreplaceable.

Michelle was hired by the University of Chicago in 2002 to run programs for community relations, etc. Her original salary was $120,000, raised to nearly $317,000, nearly twice what her husband made as senator.

Then-Sen. Barack Obama, newly elected, requested a million-dollar earmark for the UC Medical Center. Michelle quit her position just after this and the position is still vacant, unfilled.

Perhaps, Pulitzer Prize recipient Leonard Pitts or award-winner Tim Rowland or some of those who scavenged Sarah Palin’s trash and kindergarten records would want to look into the Obama matter.

Bible passages offered to ‘enlighten intellect’

To the editor:

Here are a few passages in the Bible that will enlighten your intellect.

Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.”

Proverbs 3:19-20: “The Lord through wisdom founded the Earth; By understanding He established the heavens; By his knowledge the depths were broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.”

John 1:1-5:0 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

John 1:4: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Isaiah 53:6: “All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

May God, the creator of the universe, reveal through His son, Jesus, everlasting truth.
