MAY 31, 1960-AUG. 6, 2011

Mark Bradley McAbee, 51, of Kannapolis, N.C., died during a construction accident at his home on Aug. 6, 2011.

He was born May 31, 1960, in Hagerstown, Md., the son of Madolyn Peters McAbee and the late Edwin McAbee.

Mark was a 1978 graduate of Williamsport (Md.) High School. He is also a graduate of RETS.

Mark had a pilot's license and enjoyed flying his plane. He also owned and raced a car. Mark was a gifted entrepreneur and has owned several corporations — one with international ties. He was a visionary and inventor with registered patents. Mark served his community by helping indigent adults and children.

Business interests took Mark to North Carolina and he fell in love with the state. He enjoyed camping, hiking and travel. But Mark's greatest love was his children. Daughter Annsley will be 6 next week, Madison is 8 and Blake is 9.

In addition to his mother and children, Mark is survived by his sisters and brothers: Lindsay (McAbee) Norris of Parkersburg, W.Va., Douglas McAbee of Hagerstown, Julie (McAbee) Parker of White Hall, Md., and Emilee (McAbee) Draper of Williamsport, Md.

A memorial service celebrating Mark's life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Whitley's Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. At a later date, memorial services will be held in Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to a trust fund for the children. You may send cards and checks (The Mark McAbee Memorial Fund) to Ms. Julie Parker, 4402 Norrisville Road, White Hall, MD 21161.
