SHARPSBURG — A man was taken to a Baltimore hospital Tuesday morning after the car he was driving struck a Sharpsburg home while the family was inside, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

Mark Allen Connelly, 22, address unavailable, was taken to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said.

Connelly was in fair and stable condition Tuesday night at the hospital, and was expected to be discharged soon, a spokeswoman at the trauma center said.

The occupants of the home were not injured.

The accident occurred at about 2:35 a.m., when an Acura Integra slammed into a house at 200 N. Church St., according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Authorities believe the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went out of control at the intersection of East Chapline and North Church streets.

The Washington County Division of Public Works determined that two structural supports were needed to make the house safe, deputies said.
