Children's Village golf outing planned

Children’s Village of Washington County Inc. will host its 17th annual Keep our Kids Safe Four Man Scramble Golf Classic Friday, Sept. 9, at Black Rock Golf Course.

A putting contest begins at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at noon. The hole-in-one prize is a $22,000 cash prize.

Dinner follows the tournament. Lunch will be provided, sponsored by Provident Agency. The entry fee is $100 per person. Corporate sponsor packages are available, as well as hole and cart sponsor opportunities.

All proceeds benefit the Children’s Village life-safety education program.

Children’s Village is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County.



South Hagerstown Boosters Club to meet

The first meeting of the 2011-12 school year for the South Hagerstown High School Boosters Club will be today at 7 p.m. in the school media center.

Parents of SHHS athletes are invited to attend and help support the needs of the student athletes.

SHHS Class of 1971 to hold reunion Oct. 1

South Hagerstown High School’s Class of 1971 will celebrate its 40th class reunion Saturday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Beaver Creek Country Club on Mapleville Road.  

The reservation deadline is Aug. 20.

Antique Tractor Club to hold annual show

The annual Washington County Antique Tractor Club Show will be Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27 and 28 at the Washington County Agricultural Educational Center on Sharpsburg Pike.

The event will include tractor games, antique tractor pull, barrel cart rides, hayrides, stonecrusher demonstration and sawmill demonstrations.

There will be a flea market, home-cooked food and snow cones.

Craft vendors and toy farm vendors will be on hand.

Antique tractors and equipment will be on display.

Proceeds will benefit the Washington County Antique Tractor Club Scholarship Fund.

Pooch Plunge planned for Aug. 24

The eighth annual Pooch Plunge will be Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Claude M. Potterfield Pool, 730 Frederick St. in Hagerstown.

The event will benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

The city of Hagerstown Parks and Recreation Department provides use of the pool each year for the event.  

Admission to the event for one dog and one handler is $5. Additional humans or pets will pay $2 each.

Church yard sale is this weekend

Christ Lutheran Church will hold its annual community yard sale Friday and Saturday starting at 8 a.m. each day.

It will be held rain or shine.

The church is at 216 N. Cleveland Ave. in Hagerstown.

Proceeds will benefit the community.

In addition to the yard sale, food, baked goods and ice cream will be available.
