FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. — An 11-year-old boy from Guilford Township, Pa., is missing and could be with his father out of the country, Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday.

Police are working with the U.S. State Department to find Khalil Mohamed Atteya, who went on a trip to Egypt with his mother to visit his father.

His father, an Egyptian resident, allegedly asked for the boy to visit his ailing grandmother and attend his aunt’s wedding, police said in a news release.

The boy, his mother and his mother’s sister arrived at the Cairo airport July 30, police said.

A driver was transporting Khalil’s father and the group from the United States two days later when he pulled over for what he claimed was car trouble, the news release stated.

Police said the boy remained in the car while the others exited. The father got back into the car, followed by the mother.

“As the victim’s mother (got) back into the car, her ex-husband shoved her back out and ordered the driver to go, leaving the victim’s mother and her sister along the road. They have not seen the victim since,” the news release stated.

The victim has been entered into the National Crime Information Center as a missing person.

Anyone with information may call police at 717-264-5161.
