Third assistant principal at South High among personnel changes

August 07, 2011

WASHINGTON COUNTY — Matthew A. Mauriello will be the third — and new — assistant principal at South Hagerstown High School this school year.

Mauriello’s transfer from Northern Middle School, where he also was an assistant principal, was among personnel moves the Washington County Board of Education voted 6-0 on Tuesday to approve.

Mauriello fills a vacancy left when James Aleshire was promoted this summer from assistant principal at South High to principal at Clear Spring High.

Donna Newcomer, director of human resources and professional learning, said in July that the other two South High assistant principals, Sherry Hamilton and Tim Morrow, would be back this coming school year.

South High will have a new principal, Timothy Dawson, who comes from Baltimore City Public Schools.

Timothy D. Eskridge will be the new assistant principal at Northern Middle. Maureen Margevich will continue to be an assistant principal at Northern Middle.

Eskridge was an administrative intern and sixth-grade teacher in the Waynesboro (Pa.) Area School District last school year, according to an email from Newcomer.

Among the other personnel moves is the retirement of Darryl N. Clopper after 37 years with Washington County Public Schools. His retirement was effective Aug. 1.

Clopper was the Washington County Job Development Program’s liaison with Hagerstown Community College, where some students had jobs in the campus store and library, said Mike Markoe, assistant superintendent for student and staff support.
