Phillip Andrew Martin, 79, of Goodyear, Ariz., died Friday, July 15, 2011, in hospice care after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Henry and Mabel Messersmith Martin.

He was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He served 20 years as an electrician with the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in California, New Jersey, Okinawa, Japan, and his favorite location, Alaska. He worked 14 years at Anchorage International Airport in Alaska before retiring in the Phoenix, Ariz., area in 1986.

Phil is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeanette; two daughters, Pamela Treece of Tucson, Ariz., and Sandra Walruff of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two sons, Steven Martin of North Bend, Wash., and Richard Martin of Seoul, South Korea; one stepdaughter, Donna Tipton of Goodyear; one stepson, Christopher Callihan of Surprise, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Sword of Williamsport, Md.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Solony; first wife, Janet Martin; and granddaughter, Carly Franger.
