William Henry Barber, 88, of 105 Southern Oak Drive, Hagerstown, Md., died on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born in Martinsburg, W.Va., on Jan. 1, 1923, he was the son of the late William Henry and Ruth Louise Barber.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.
He was a retired salesman from McCarthey-Hicks Inc. out of Baltimore, Md.
He was a lifetime member of the Potomac Fishing & Game Club, and past commander of the Funkstown American Legion, Post 211.
He is survived by his wife, Anna M. Barber; three sons, George W. Barber of Hagerstown, Richard Timothy (Tim) Barber of Stanwick, U.K., and James R. Barber of Williamsport, Md.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, William H. Barber Jr. and Daniel E. Barber, and one sister, Mae Cotton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Timothy Leighton will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.
