HAGERSTOWN — King Street in Hagerstown is open again, ahead of schedule, after being closed while demolition of the former Washington County Hospital complex continues.

Only the sidewalk on the east side of the street was closed Wednesday morning.

King Street between Antietam Street and Baltimore Street was expected to be closed from Monday morning until 6 p.m. Wednesday, city officials had announced.

Jim Bender, assistant city engineer for the City of Hagerstown, confirmed that the street was also open all day Tuesday.

"King Street was supposed to be closed down so parts of the hospital near it could be demolished," he said. "However, it appears they got most of the work on that side finished on Monday."

Brandenburg Industrial is doing the demolition work.
