Cruise-in moves to Potomac Street

The First Friday cruise-in is moving to Potomac Street this week. It will be held Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Town Center block of Potomac Street beginning at the Red Barron building will be closed to traffic.

Entertainment will be by the variety band Chubby playing many songs from the 1950s and ’60s. There will also be a 50/50 drawing.

A donation of $3 is requested to enter. The rain date is Aug. 12.

Church to hold free community carnival

Van Lear Brethren in Christ Church, 10745 Van Lear Drive, will host a free community carnival for all ages Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free carnival food, such as popcorn, sno-cones, hot dogs and drinks will be available. Games and crafts are planned for children, as well as a sprinkler and inflatable items. Singing groups will provide entertainment throughout the day.

There will be door prizes and drawings. The rain date is Aug. 13.

Medairy Lodge Temple awards two scholarships

Kaelii Elizabeth Stout of Williamsport High School and Jeffrey Moats of Clear Spring High School were each the recipient of a $500 scholarship from Medairy Lodge 140 Temple Association.

Stout will attend Towson University majoring in elementary education, and Moats will attend Hagerstown Community College in the fall.

WHS boys soccer teams to start practice

All those interested in trying out for the Williamsport High School boys’ soccer team should note the following dates:

  • Friday, Aug. 12 — Meeting for parents and players at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Bring your completed physical forms (available at school in the main office). Parent attendance is mandatory, as all other forms will be filled out that evening.
  • Saturday, Aug. 13 — First practice, 8 to 11 a.m., for all varsity candidates.
  • Monday, Aug. 15 — First practice, 4 to 6 p.m., for all junior varsity candidates.

Clothes of Hope schedule for August

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing.

It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11 and 25, and Monday, Aug. 29. It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15.

There is no charge for the clothing. Monetary donations are accepted.

Conococheague Little League wins state title

Congratulations to the Conococheague Little League All-Stars for winning the Maryland State 11-12 Tournament.

The team moves on to the Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament in Bristol, Conn., beginning Friday.
