Harry D. White Jr., 77, of Rochester, Mich., passed away June 15, 2011, at his home.

He was born June 9, 1934, to Harry D. White Sr. and Dorothy White in Annapolis, Md.

His beloved wife of 55 years, Nancy McCauley White, died Saturday, July 23, 2011.

He is survived by three children, Mark (Susie) White of Charlottesville, Va., Stacy (Scot) Cleaveland of Troy, Mich., and Cindy Keepers of Roswell, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.

Harry was preceded in death by his brother, Marty White.

Harry graduated from the University of Maryland, where he was a leader in student government, Men’s Glee Club, Air Force ROTC, Pershing Rifles, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Omicron Delta Kappa. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, earning the rank of first lieutenant.

Over the course of 30 years, Harry held many management positions in many states within AT&T and the Bell System, retiring as a division manager with Ameritech in 1990.

Harry leaves behind a lifelong legacy of civic engagement and community service. He was especially active in the Kiwanis Club and held numerous offices during his 35-plus years of service, including governor of the Michigan district in 1996-97.

Funeral services were held June 27 at 2 p.m. at University Presbyterian Church, 1385 S. Adams Road, Rochester, N.Y. Burial was July 1, 2011, in Salem Reformed Church Cemetery in Hagerstown, Md.

Local arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
