Teens arrested after complaints about dirt bikes, ATVs

Two teenagers were arrested Monday after residents complained to police that individuals were riding dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles in the 900 block of Concord Avenue, Hagerstown police said.

Both 17-year-old juveniles were charged and released to their parents, police said in a news release.

Police observed several individuals riding dirt bikes and ATVs in the area of Wabash Avenue near Hellane Park, the release said.

Police tried to stop two subjects on dirt bikes and one individual on an ATV but the individuals fled, police said.

Officers chased the males to an alley in the 200 block of Mont Valla Street, where two subjects abandoned their motorcycle and an ATV, and fled on foot.

The two juveniles were taken into custody in the 1000 block of Lanvale Street, police said.

It was determined that the ATV was stolen in a burglary earlier in the day, police said.

In that incident, the ATV and several motorcycles were stolen in an alley that runs between the 700 block of Maryland Avenue and Spruce Street, police said.

Someone broke into three garages along the alley and stole the vehicles, police said.

A witness reported hearing a motorcycle or an ATV running in the area about 4 a.m., and it is believed that is when the thefts occurred, police said.
