Where has the summer gone?

August 01, 2011|Susie Hoffman | Around Funkstown

So tell me, what have you done with my summer? To say it has flown by would be an understatement. I feel as though we have already packed an entire summer into the short two months that just passed. Let’s hope that August is just as fun and productive. Before you know it, it will be time for back-to-school shopping and then quiet mornings.

Way to go, team

Congratulations to the Post 211 American Legion baseball team for coming in second in the state of Maryland. The Legion tournament ended this past weekend, and our young men played well. The weather was scorching and the competition was just as intense as the temperatures. The ballplayers should be so proud of their performance.

‘Cool Your Paws’

The Meadows of Hagerstown will host its fifth annual ’50s-style freeze titled “Cool Your Paws” to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County Saturday, Aug. 20, from 2 to 6 p.m. The rain date is Saturday, Aug. 27.

The annual event takes place at The Meadows Original Frozen Custard of Hagerstown in the South Pointe Shopping Center, and will feature pet photography by McMillion Photography, caricature pet paintings by Off the Leash, specially designed dog beds by Pet-O-Bed, Dog-Gone Groomin’s mobile van, Certified Professional Dog Trainer Karol Kennedy, music by DogFoot Acoustics, and a chance to win a gift from Monster Hollow Studios, $5 Meadows gift certificates and Meadows T-shirts.

There will be free frozen custard treats for all four-legged visitors with any purchases. A percentage of all sales from 2 to 6 p.m. will be donated to the shelter.

The Humane Society will also be accepting donations during the benefit. Suggested donations include money, dog collars, leashes, scratching posts, portable kennels/crates, as well as PetCo and/or PetSmart gift certificates.
