HAGERSTOWN — One lane of West Church Street from McPherson Street to North Burhans Boulevard was closed Monday due to a broken water main.

The water main broke when workers from the Hagerstown Water Department were working on a service line for the Thomas, Bennett & Hunter, Inc. building at 410 N Burhans Blvd., Troy Johnson of the Hagerstown Water Department said.

Water was shooting out of the main on Church Street at McPherson Street around 10:30 a.m. Monday. Johnson said that part of the main would have to be replaced.

The water main is expected to be repaired by Monday afternoon, Johnson said. He said the work could take up to four hours.

City of Hagerstown Communications Manager Mary King said in an emailed release that customers in the affected area did not lose water service.
