Richard Franklin Vining Sr., 78, of Falling Waters, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at home.

Born Monday, March 6, 1933, in Star City, Ark., he was the son of the late Homer T. Vining Sr. and the late Neva Dale McGregor Vining.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed square dancing, socializing, playing cards and traveling. He also loved to read and cook.

He is survived by his four daughters, Kim Bishop of Pennsylvania, Michelle Vining of Maryland, Diana Vining of Maryland and Tana Barnes of Maryland; son, Gregory Vining of California; three sisters, Esther Kent of Mississippi, Fanny Carpenter of Mississippi and Sissy Mercer of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by son, Richard Vining Jr.; sister, Nell Kent; brother, Homer T. Vining Jr.; brother, Herman Vining; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., Hagerstown, MD 21742, with the Rev. Richard A. Daughtridge officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
