Anna Mae Martin, 96, formerly of Big Pool, Md., died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, Md.

Born Feb. 19, 1915, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late Pendleton and Lorena G. Ambrose Hovermale.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Daniel W. “Dumps” Martin, in March 2000.

She was a member of Grace Bible Church, Indian Springs, Md.

She was a graduate of Clear Spring High School, class of 1933, and Columbia Business College, Hagerstown, Md.

She worked as secretary to D. Raymond Snively, sales manager at Hagerstown Leather Co., for six years, and Phil Harr, head of the inspection department at Fairchild Aircraft, for 7 1/2 years, retiring in January 1949. She was the co-owner and operator of Martin’s Self-Service Market at Indian Springs for 21 years. She was a Washington County School bus contractor from 1957 to 1987 and a driver for 15 years.

She was a member of the Washington County School Bus Contractors Association and served as the secretary for a number of years.

She was a member of the Indian Springs Bible Church for many years, having served in various capacities as junior department superintendent, teacher, secretary, treasurer and trustee.

She is survived by two daughters, Carole Ann Spade and husband, Rodney, of Lexington Park, Md., and Robin A. Hose and husband, Donald Jr., of Clear Spring, Md.; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Otto and Evelyn Puffenberger; and brothers, William P. Hovermale, Theodore R. Hovermale, Paul Hovermale, Charles R. Hovermale and Raymond K. Hovermale.

Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Rodney Spade and the Rev. Nick Britton will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open after noon.
