Edward C. Bracken, 79, formerly of Maugansville, Md., entered into eternal rest Friday, July 29, 2011, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Born Nov. 26, 1931, in Vandergrift, Pa., he was the son of the late William and Florence Bracken.

He spent most of his younger years in Johnstown, Pa., where he was an active member of The Salvation Army for many years.

He was employed by Mack Trucks of Hagerstown, Md., and retired from Fairchild (Rohr Industries) in 1993. Ed also owned and operated State Line Sales and Services in State Line, Pa., where he sold and serviced lawn mowers and tractors.

He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed woodworking, often making items for his children and grandchildren.

Ed is survived by his three loving daughters, Linda Brant and husband, Jim, with whom he resided, Darlene Myers and husband, Curvin "Butch," and Donna Valente and husband, Anthony. He also was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a sister, Anna May Walko of Johnstown; a brother, William Bracken of Chambersburg, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion, Mollie, his black cocker spaniel.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Luella Bracken, who departed this life in 2003; his brothers, Robert Bracken and Kenneth Bracken; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at 1 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Aikens officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
