Suns drop third straight

SALISBURY, Md. — The Delmarva Shorebirds were held to only four hits Thursday night, but made the most of them in a 5-4 victory over the Hagerstown Suns.

It was the third straight loss for the Suns, whose second-half record dropped to 16-16. They are in fourth place in the South Atlantic League’s Northern Division standings.

The Shorebirds (13-20) broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the third, highlighted by half their hits on the night — an RBI double by Joe Oliveira followed by a two-run double by Garabez Rosa.

The Suns scored their final two runs in the eighth to make it a 5-4 game. Mills Rogers had an RBI double and Wade Moore scored on a sacrifice fly by Justino Cuevas.

The Suns took a 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Moore and an RBI single by Cuevas.

The Shorebirds tied the game in the bottom of the second.

Adrian Sanchez finished with two of Hagerstown’s seven hits.

Delmarva starter Jarret Martin (5-6) went six innings for the win, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five.

Suns starter A.J. Cole (2-6) went only three innings in the loss.
