Bicyclist injured in accident on Mapleville Road

One person was injured Thursday morning in an accident involving a bicyclist on Mapleville Road (Md. 66), Cpl. Shusko of the Maryland State Police said.

The accident happened in front of the Sheetz store at the intersection of Mapleville Road and National Pike (U.S. 40), east of Hagerstown.

Shusko said the bicyclist heading southbound in the shoulder lane of Mapleville Road attempted to turn in front of a car heading in the same direction just past the intersection.

The bicyclist was taken to Meritus Medical Center in an ambulance from Boonsboro with minor injuries, according to Shusko.

A firetruck from the Mount Aetna Volunteer Fire Department was also on the scene.

The car involved in the accident was able to be driven away.

Police responded to the accident around 11:40 a.m. Thursday, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said. The scene was cleared by 12:10 p.m.
