Two Pa. women charged with harassment

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Two women were charged with harassment after a domestic dispute Wednesday at a home in Fayetteville, Pa., Pennsylvania State Police said.

Hallie James Degroat, 36, and Virginia Ellen Degroat, 34, were charged with one count each of harassment, according to a state police press release.

Troopers allege Virginia Ellen Degroat sprayed mace in the face of Hallie James Degroat as the two engaged in a domestic dispute at about 10:10 p.m. in a home at 4602 Newman Road.



Waynesboro man charged with harassment, assault


WAYNESBORO, Pa. — The Waynesboro Police Department said it has charged a man who allegedly struck a woman Wednesday morning in a home on the south side of town.

Benjamin Savage, 29, of 30 S. Church St. in Waynesboro, has been charged with one count each of harassment and simple assault, according to a police department press release.

Police allege Savage shoved the woman, twisted her arm and struck her in the face at about 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said they had to force open a door to speak to Savage because he wedged a chair against it to prevent officers from entering.

Incidents reported in Washington County

The following incidents were reported Tuesday and Wednesday by the Washington County Sheriff's Office:


  • A folding dog trap was stolen in the 5100 block of Berm Road.
  • A theft in the 17200 block of Cole Road.
  • Copper wire was stolen in the 5200 block of Red Hill Road.
  • A theft in the 400 block of Premium Outlets Boulevard.
  • A cellphone and soda cans were recovered after they were stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of North Colonial Drive.

Hagerstown Police respond to incidents

The Hagerstown Police Department responded recently to the following incidents, according to spokeswoman Barbara Pickett:

July 18:

  • Controlled-dangerous substance violations were reported at an apartment in the 100 block of North Potomac Street.
  • An assault was reported at Fairgrounds Park.
  • A domestic violence incident was reported in the 200 block of Daycotah Avenue.
  • A theft was reported in the 600 block of Highland Way.
July 19:
  • A domestic violence incident was reported in the 1200 block of Little Elliott Drive.
  • An injured person was reported in the 400 block of West Antietam Street.
  • A violation of a protective order was reported in the 400 block of West Franklin Street.
  • A domestic violence referral was made in the 200 block of High Street.
  • A theft from a vehicle was reported in the 900 block of Hamilton Boulevard.
  • A domestic violence referral was made in the 500 block of Lynn Haven Drive.
  • A deceased person was found in the first block of East Washington Street.
  • A domestic violence incident was reported in the 1100 block of West Washington Street.
  • A theft was reported at the Family Dollar store at 1051 Maryland Avenue.
  • A theft was reported in the 600 block of Washington Avenue.
  • A violation of a protective order was reported in the 200 block of Frederick Street. An arrest was made.
  • Medication and coins were stolen during a burglary in the 100 block of Buena Vista.
  • A domestic violence incident was reported in the first block of Broadway.
  • A burglary was reported at the Colt League concession stand at 155 Park Avenue.
  • Unattended children were found in the 200 block of Norway Avenue.

Incidents reported in Franklin County

The following incidents were reported Tuesday by Franklin County (Pa.) Emergency Services:

  • At 5:12 a.m., a fire alarm in the 700 block of Norland Avenue in Chambersburg.
  • At 11:34 p.m., a traffic accident at Dunkin and Newville roads in Cumberland County.

The following incidents were reported Thursday by Franklin County Emergency Services:

  • At 2:23 a.m., a trash fire in the 500 block of South Washington Street.
  • At 4:12 a.m., a house fire in the 22600 block of Stevenson Road.
