David L. Orndorff, 77, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 27, 2011.

Born June 15, 1934, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Clyde R. and Beulah Mae Halley Orndorff.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Orndorff, in 2002.

He graduated from Brunswick High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.

He retired from the Fort Detrick Power Plant.

He had attended Harmony Church of the Brethren.

He was past master of Hagerstown Lodge 217 A.F.&A.M., and a member of the Hagerstown Forest 95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Goodwill Athletic Club, the Owl's Club Inc. & Owl's Nest 1073, the B.P.O. Elks 378, and the Waynesboro Fraternal Order of Eagles.

After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, researching genealogy and golf.

He is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Orndorff and dear friend, Terry Heffner, of Hagerstown, and Leanne Shoemaker of Alexandria, Va.; one son, Randy Shoemaker and wife, Wanita, of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Eileen Houlihan of Binghamton, N.Y., and Evelyn Best of Knoxville, Md.; two brothers, Richard Orndorff of Brunswick, Md., and Bernard Orndorff of Lovettsville, Va.; and three grandchildren, Shalynn Stough, Brittany Strait and Kayla Shoemaker.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert Orndorff.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.  Burial will be 1 p m. Saturday at the Union Cemetery in Lovettsville, Va.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
