Norman Edward Benner Jr., 69, of 302 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, Md., died on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at his home.

Born Oct. 15, 1941, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Norman Edward Benner Sr. and Mildred Suffecool Benner.

He was a 1959 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965.

He retired from Mack Trucks Inc.

He was a member of Valley Assembly of God.

He was a member of AMVETS Post 10, and Funkstown American Legion, Post 211.

His hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Delinda Benner; children, Anthony Benner, Norma Benner Garvin and husband, Jeff Garvin, Dwayne Benner, and Melinda Benner Lewis and husband, Brian, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Becky Haugh of Hagerstown; grandchildren, Brandon Benner, Christopher Benner, Benjamen Benner, Sarah Spangler, Jeremy Spangler, Jeffry Garvin, Gwen Garvin, Joshua Benner, Heather Benner, Brooke Benner, Dustin Benner, Jessica Benner, Erica Benner, Matthew Benner, Meghan Benner and Tyler Lewis; all of Hagerstown; 13 great-grandchildren, all of Hagerstown; and stepfather, Bill Burger.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Roser, Jennifer Billman, Deborah Benner, Nancy Rockwell and Mary Turner.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Robert C. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.  

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
