City of Hagerstown names new finance director

July 26, 2011

HAGERSTOWN — Michelle Burker has been appointed finance director of the city of Hagerstown, after nearly a year serving as acting head of the department.

Burker succeeded Al Martin, who recently ended his 30-year career with the city. Martin was named finance director in 1983.

Prior to assuming the post of acting finance director in September 2010, Burker worked as an accounting manager for the city.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the City of Hagerstown as the director of finance," she said in a city news release. "I look forward to working with the management and finance teams to enhance the high levels of services currenty provided."

As he prepared to swear Burker into her new position Tuesday night, Mayor Robert E. Bruchey II said that he could not say enough about the work she has done for the city.

"She has done wonders for our finance department," he said.

Burker has worked in the finance field for the past 11 years and has been a city employee since 2008, the release said.
