Mercersburg man hired as Penn State Extension dairy educator

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Logan T. Horst of Mercersburg, Pa., has been hired as a dairy systems educator with Penn State Extension, effective July 1.   

He will work from the Penn State Extension Office in Franklin County in Chambersburg. Horst’s responsibilities will include education and assistance in the area of dairy profitability and management.

Horst has a Bachelor of Science degree in agribusiness management from Penn State University, where he also minored in animal science. While at Penn State, he was a member of the dairy judging team, a member of the dairy science club and served as show manager for the Penn State Dairy Expo. He also served on the selection committee for the Nittany Lion Fall Classic, and provided much of the fitting services for the animals entering that sale.

Horst is a native of Chambersburg, growing up on a family dairy farm.  He and his family exhibited their registered Holsteins and Jerseys at local and national regional shows.

Horst is a lifetime member of the American Jersey Cattle Club. He continues to enjoy working with register cattle in his spare time. Horst is an avid sports fan and also enjoys playing the guitar.
